The Tempest Bar is a place that I've gone to about five times over the last few years and it was generally used as a bit of a way-station while waiting on friends to meet up to go off to dinner or just to take a break in a conventional NYC bar.
It's a nice sized place with a long bar and attentive bartenders. I'm a beer drinker for the most part, so no real spirits of shots are done in terms of my drinking and with the bar not serving food you'll need to pace yourself if you end up in here.
The prices are reasonable considering its NYC and it wasn't too loud when I was there and I was able to enjoy conversation with my friends which is always a nice thing when one plans on spending the time with them. I need to make mention that one MIGHT be able to bring in small outside food to the place but nothing over the top is recommended. For good measure just eat your pizza or hot dogs from the nearby carts straight away so you can get down to the business of drinking in the bar.
As its been a bit of a time since last here I am not remembering a free WiFi signal but there might be one. There is a pool table in the rear of the pub though if you want to try your luck. I'll be back for sure when the event calls for my paying a visit. -

Meh. Not the warmest of watering holes, and a double Jack and coke tasted a little off. Main issue was they advertised a DMB Pre-party before the night's concert at MSG. We were expecting DMB on the house sound system, but if they added that to their "pre-party", it must have been after we finished our drinks and scooted to go get in line for the concert. Wasted stop.
Cheers!

I almost feel guilty reviewing this place because we did not stay. At about 8 o'clock on a Friday, we walked in, the music was way too loud, and we walked right out. So, the sole purpose of this review was to tell you that if you want a place where you could have a normal volume conversation, this is not it. However, the people inside the bar seemed to be having a good time! Mostly younger 20 somethings.

I thought that this was a very old-school bar I saw a lot of elderly men here and I believe that the owner was some older white guy just standing there it reminds me of my family's bar except the location was a little better being that I was on 34th St.
I had a nice young Latina girl with short hair and glasses be my barmaid I couldn't believe that a less than half pint of Guinness was actually eight dollars I thought that was insanely expensive for a glass of Guinness it wasn't even the full paint but I guess since you are in Manhattan you're going to spend a little bit more I just had one and then went across the street the bar was a lot better.
I ended up having three drinks at the bar directly across the street it was a better livelier atmosphere and they had food -

I go there to see Seana, Siren of the Depths. She's a good person. It's a fun bar, and this may be my new Thursday night spot. The guys there are good bartenders
